The correct colour for the rear panel is flat black. A PO had repainted it in the same colour as the rest of body. I set about converting it back.
After removing the light clusters, bumper, boot lock, and repairing the mounting for the TRIUMPH and OVERDRIVE emblems, I scuffed the paintwork with 800 grit, and then applied Rustoleum primer to it. Part way through this:
I used a can of Rustoleum flat black and a foam brush to paint the underside lip of the rear of the boot lid, the part which would not be "visible" to a spray when the boot was shut for spraying, and likewise the shelf on top of the rear panel. I let that dry for a day.
Then I closed the boot lid, and very carefully masked off the area to be painted black.
I was careful to mask between the edge of the boot aperture and the wings and rear panel. This is the orientation I used:
